Winter at Stein

Winter at Stein Inn can be just as enticing and enjoyable as the more popular summer months. Truly a ‘get away from it all’ break, with no telephones, no email, no TV and very few people.

Indeed, some of those ‘in the know’ prefer to stay at Stein out of season. With wild beauty in the storms interspersed with crisp, clear, beautiful days, the weather often changes on an hourly basis.

With a mild winter climate due to the Gulf Stream, Skye rarely suffers prolonged or heavy snowfall and, indeed, frosts are somewhat of a rarity. Being only 3 hours from Inverness airport means that you can enjoy a remote location without the travel hassle of flying abroad.

Winter also gives us Dark Skies. If things are timed right – little or no moon, clear skies and sun spot activity, – you might be lucky enough to see an Aurora Borealis or at the very least the Milky Way and maybe some shooting stars. Waternish is lucky to have three Dark Skies Discovery Sites but the reality is switch the lights out, step outside and wait a little while until you eyes accustom … and be amazed!

Staying at Stein Inn out of season you can also take advantage of the ‘3 for 2 Special Winter Deal‘ – 3 nights bed and breakfast for the price of 2… short stays and winter deals are available for Gillen, our self catering apartment, and for our Auld Mission Cottage

Winter Hours at the Stein Inn are 12pm ’til 11pm, with food served 7 days per week, lunches 12.-2.30 (12.30 – 3 on Sunday) and evening meals from 5:30pm ’til 8pm (8:30pm Friday & Saturday). The menu is more limited than the summer but still features quality local produce.

The Inn is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and New Years Day. Bed and breakfast out of season is sometimes not available due to staff breaks, so please check in advance.
